The following are CVs of some of our foreign judges with whose details some exhibitors may not be familiar.

Johan Juslin has been approved as an all Breed Judge by the FCI since 2003, having been judging at Championship level since 1985. He is passed for CCs in 6 different Groups by the English KC and has judged in 28 countries. He is also a judge of Hounds and Spitz hunting trials He has also been one of the most successful breeders of Norwich Terriers in Finland.

He has been very active in club work, having been Chairman of the Finnish Peke Club and secretary of the Turku International Championship Show. He is currently Chairman of the Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club of Finland , Vice Chairman of the Judges' Society and Show Chairman of an all breed FCI International Show run by the Judge's & Breeders Association. Mr Juslin is member of the Finnish Kennel Club's Council.


Espen Engh was born into a family of dog lovers, his mother Kari having been active in greyhounds since 1955. Since 1975 they have co-bred the Jet greyhounds, resulting in 164 homebred champions, including 3 UK champions. Espen has also owned several champions in Afghan Hounds and Whippets. A championship show judge since 1987, he has officiated in 65 countries around the world and was this year approved to judge all breeds by the FCI. One of very few to officiate at Crufts, Westminster and the FCI World show, Espen is approved to judge 27 breeds with CCs by The UK Kennel Club. He is a veterinary surgeon by profession, but is currently employed as Chief Executive Officer of the Norwegian Kennel Club.


Marja Talvitie has spent all her life with dogs. Her parents had German Shepherds and later St. Bernards, including a BIS-winner.

She has been a successful breeder of Lapponian Herders and Finnish Lapphunds and also later bred many Champions and International Champions in Scottish Terriers and Dandie Dinmont Terriers. Marja started her Championship Show judging career in 1982 and is now an FCI all-round judge, judging all over the world.

Vice-President of the Finnish Kennel Club Board and Chairman of the Judges and Show Committe in Finnish Kennel Club. She represents Finland in the FCI:s Judges and Show Committee.


Paula Heikkinen-Lehkonen (Wolfheart) got her first dog, a Wire Fox Terrier, in 1961, and since then has become one of the most successful breeders in Finland with too many wins to mention in Terriers, ESS and Dachshunds and exporting dogs to about 20 different countries, many of them becoming champions.She began to take part in club activities, shows, obedience and hunting training from the beginning. She was a professional all-breed groomer for about 20 years, and at that time also handled different breeds in shows: German Shepherds, Beagles, Cockers, American Cockers, Poodles etc.

Paula first became a Championship Show judge in 1976 and qualified as an all-breed judge in -1996. (in the FCI countries that means: qualified to award CCs in the approximately 350 breeds recognized by the FCI.). In UK she has awarded CCs over 4 different groups and is mainly known as a Terrier judge. Besides Finland, Paula has judged in 44 different countries and is known as one of Finland's top judges, judging many times in the FCI European and World Winner Shows and at Crufts in 2008. As well as being involved in local and breed Associations, too many and varied to list here, she has been a member of several Finnish Kennel Club committees: the Breeding Committee, the Standards Committee, the Show and Judges' Committee and the Editorial Committee. At the moment she is the vice-president of the Show and Judges' Committee, and so one of those in charge of the education and testing of future judges.

Paula is the President of the Finnish Judges' Society, and a board member of the World Dog Press Association. Her articles and photos have been published all over the world and her language skills have enabled her to translate several books into Finnish.


Harri Lehkonen's first dog in 1956 was a Rough Collie, but his real involvement in the show world began after his marriage to Paula Heikkonen-Lehkonen in -73.

He became a Championship Show judge in -81 and besides Finland has judged in 30 countries. Harri has judged the Terrier group, the Hound group, Gundog group and the Dachshund group on several occasions in International shows, and is also qualified to judge Best in Show. His most recent championship level approval was in OES and he judges a wide range of breeds under FCI rules. He has been active in both breed and general show societies. Harri has been in charge of the education and examination of new judges for several breed clubs and is also a member of the team set up to renew the Finnish Kennel Club's guidelines for judges' education.

Harri is a member of the Finnish Kennel Club Standards Committee and the Committee of Future Plans. He has had articles and photographs published in the dog press and has given lectures in several occasions. He is a member of the World Dog Press Association.


Harry Tast purchased his first dog in 1965 and the first litter was born in 1968. For the breeding activities he has been awarded the Vuolasvirta Breeders' Plaque of the Finnish Kennel Club in 1982.

He first judged at CC level 1985 and has been an all rounder since 2003. He has judged in most countries in Europe as well as in Africa, Asia, Australia and North America. Harry has been active in the Finnish Kennel Club and its regional organisation and several breed clubs. He has been a member of the Finnish Kennel Club Council and Board and the chairman of the Show Judges and Show Committee. In addition to dogs he is also active in equestrian sports and breeding.


Kirsi Laamanen got her first dog, a Boxer male, in 1975 and after 'serving her apprenticeship' was approved by the Finnish Kennel Club to judge Boxers on championship level in 1984. Bred boxers with her husband under the affix Bora Bora. She is now am licensed to judge about 70 different breeds and has judged in more than 20 different countries. Kirsi is president of the Finnish Boxer Club and member of the FKC's council. Besides her own breed, Kirsi admits to always having a soft spot for the English Bulldogs and all the Molosser type breeds, big and small.

Sandy Weinraub (Afghan Hounds) Sandy's involvement in this breed started in 1962 with the Purchase of our first Afghan who became Ch. Akaba's Daphne-lin. Daphne was the foundation of almost all of the Sanallah's today. She is proud to say that she finished close to a hundred American and International Champions, most owner handled and finished from the Bred by Exhibitor class. She has exported dogs to Europe, Asia, Canada, Australia and most have been influential in breeding programs in those countries. She is also very proud to have bred the World BIS Ch. Sanallah's Gerome who made such a contribution to European Afghans. Sandy has judged many Specialties in the US including the Afghan Hound Club of America twice. Specialties in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Japan and now, for the first time, in Britain. She looks forward to the assignment and the opportunity to meet the English Afghan Afghan Hound Breeders and hopes they are as enthusiastic as she is at the prospect of having her judge their beautiful hounds.
